*edited for clarification*
1. Describe in five words or less how you feel about Order of the Phoenix. (your initial reaction)
holy crap. that is crazy.
2. What are your feelings on Harry's personality? Do you think he is overly cynical, depressed, etc. . . .?
He has PMS. Major PMS. But man, does it make sense. He's got no Cedric, and no Sirius, and Moody showed him the happy dead people picture and he had to write lines in his own blood and he tried to bite Dumbledore and he doesn't get to play Quidditch and wah! And also Cho's a snively bitchslut.
3. Do you think Order of the Phoenix is appropriate for children 13 and younger? Why or why not?
Probably not for 10 and younger. Very, very, very bloody and scary. If the book made me depressed, what would it do to younger types?
4. List your five most hated characters (either in Book 5 or the whole series, non-humans can be included).
1. "Umbitch"
2. Percy (and that's scary because I was a Percy fan until this book)
3. Voldemort
4. Cho
5. book four!Ron
also Wormtail and Dudley, but Wormtail wasn't in this book at all and Dudley boxing made me laugh.
5. Percy turned away from his family. Will he come crawling back to them now or . . .?
He'll come crawling back but it can never be the same because his behaviour was unforgivable. No one sends a Weasley sweater back and fails to suffer the consequences.
6. What did you think of the new DADA's punishment? Why didn't Harry nor Lee complain?
Ech. Only I'm a pervert so I was wide-eyed and impressed. I think they felt powerless--Harry could have complained but this is the boy who refused to complain when he was hearing snakes make death threats in his head, plus the only person who could realistically stop it was Fudge, who thought Harry was crazy and making stuff up. By the time Lee had to write lines, Umbridge was so much in power that no one could have really done anything.
7. What do you think of James and Lily now?
I've known they were less perfect than Harry thought since sometime in book 3--I had an idea that this is what they were like when I started feeling sympathy for Snape, although I hadn't thought that James would be *such* a fifteen-year-old boy when he was fifteen... it really doesn't change anything.
8. Has your opinion (which is probably not too good) of Petunia Dursley changed? If yes, how so?
Petunia's good people. Which I never would have said before. Now I chalk her nastiness up to fear, rather than jealousy as I would have before.
9. What's the meaning of Snape's nickname in your opinion?
It's a stupid, teenage nickname given by irritatingly popular kids to the poor greasy unpopular kid. Alex is right, this is a really stupid question. There is no opinion whatsoever in "why do they call the kid they beat up 'Snivellus'?"
10. What do you think of the character death? Do you think s/he will return? The "death" of this person was vague and not very final; however, remember that JKR said she cried over this character's death.
It was really sudden and didn't think it would happen that way but now I think of him as dead. Which is bad because I keep almost referring to it in front of Naomi, who is still several chapters away from the end...
11. Do you think fanfiction will be hurt by Book 5? Do you see any new pairings arising? Do you see any huge ships falling apart?
Haha no more Harry/Cho or Harry/Ginny. Harry must remain celibate forever. The Ron/Hermione was irritating... they need to date so they can behave normally around each other. There needs to be Tonks femmeslash, because I am in love with her. And there are going to be crazy metamorphmagi MarySues and the entire Astronomy Tower at Fiction Alley is going to become the Requirement Room...
12. What was your favourite chapter in Order of the Phoenix? Why?
Errr... favorite chapter? Not sure. Probably the one when we found out Narcissa and Sirius were cousins... "The Ancient and Honorable House of Black?" There's nothing in comparison with the Shrieking Shack chapters of POA.
13. Talk about Fred and George's "flight."
I needed it. Everyone needed it. Dumbledore's flight was a turning point and from then on I stopped being depressed, and I love Fred and George, with all my heart and soul. I even stopped thinking of them as the Phelps twins and was able to have my old mental image of them... :-D
14. Give some thoughts on Ron.
Ron's good people. I didn't like him in books 3 or 4, so it's nice for him to be over his fit-throwing stage.
15. What did you think of Dumbledore's explanation?
Well, duh! That was very much not worth the buildup. And it screwed my awesome Trelawney theory. I loved the part about Neville, though... this was an excessively happy book for my Neville love.
16. Do you feel satisfied by this book?
Oh yes.
17. How anxious are you now for Book 6?
Not as anxious as I was for this one... unlike book four, this had a clear conclusion. I want to read book 6 but I need some time... mostly I want to know the kids' OWL scores... I am a standardized testing whore and how dare JKR end the book without telling us what they got? There should be a page at the back with their scores.
